History

1979–1981

In the late 1970s, computer graphics was a new field and companies such as General Motors, Boeing, and NASA supported CAD programs. By late 1979, NASA had developed an experimental CAD program, but a personal computer-based drafting program had yet to be released.

Autodesk originally hired a team from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to develop a CAD program that could be run on a microcomputer. The MIT team was led by George Bilbilis, a researcher at the MIT Media Lab, who came up with the idea of using a microcomputer to solve the problems of graphics and CAD. In 1979, Autodesk hired programmer George Drachenberg to work on this project. Drachenberg asked his friend David Greenberg, a software engineer at the Harvard Center for Computer Science and Information Systems Research, to work on the project with him.

In March 1980, Autodesk’s first product was released, called « AutoCAD ». It was an « applications package » that allowed people to view and edit drawings created by other people, similar to previous standalone CAD programs. Autodesk began marketing the AutoCAD program on Microcomputers and, in early 1981, offered a « CAD Companion » program for computers without a graphics card.

1982–2000

In 1982, Autodesk released AutoCAD for the IBM PC microcomputer platform. In 1983, Autodesk produced a portable version of AutoCAD for the Apple II family of computers.

How to re-draw image and make it to match with current view size?

I’m using CoreGraphics (not UIKit) to draw an image (a part of an image, say, a rectangle).
Right now, to draw an image, I’m using CGContextSetFillColorWithColor(context, [UIColor blackColor].CGColor); and CGContextFillRect(context,rect);
After drawing, the resulting image will be displayed properly.
Now, I want to redraw the same image in a different position (to be drawn on top of the current image), but I don’t know how to make the newly drawn image to match the current view size.
I’ve looked around and found that there’s an image property that can be used to draw an image but what I want to do is very different. (in image property, you can specify only the area to draw, in my case, I want to set a rectangle that goes from one corner of the image to the other)
If I use UIGraphicsBeginImageContextWithOptions(image.size, NO, image.scale), it will only be scaled to fit within the UIView. I’m not sure how to properly redraw the image on top of the previous one.

Support for adding and inserting layers
