Here is my situation, I have a web application which has a web server on it. There are classes/functions in the code of this application, which should run periodically (daily, weekly etc.). These classes/functions are running on a Windows Service.
In addition, the web application also have some end-users on the client machine and every once in a while they should also be informed of the data/changes of the previously mentioned class/functions.
Now, what is the best way to implement this? Should the web application inform the Windows Service of the data changes and the Windows Service can send this data to the web application which then can update the HTML page with the data from the Windows Service?
Or should the Windows Service send the data to the web application which can update the HTML page?
I want to make sure that this is the best way to implement it and that both the web application and the Windows Service knows the exact state of the other.
What is your experience with this?
I would use a WCF service to communicate between the two applications. WCF is a great technology for communicating between independent applications, allowing you to add services on the fly as needed, and use a standard protocol to communicate between the two.
I wouldn’t do this, but if you must, look at this question.
After reading the comment by gilly3, it seems that it’s not as simple as you’d like, but you can use the File API.
In order to upload a file in an HTML Form you must add an enctype= »multipart/form-data » attribute. This will ensure the browser will send a valid HTML form.
